Network AGM Report 2009 / 2010

Summit rides again!

The Magnificent 7 (well six actually!) from Summit Network completed the London to

Brighton in a saddle sore record time of 9 hours! Yes that’s a long time in the saddle and

lots of hill to push your bike up when there are 27,000 other people trying to get to the same

place. Fun was had by all and lots of money raised for The British Heart Foundation.

Raising money seems to be a common theme for Summit as they have always been

completely self financing and are always looking for opportunities. This year’s schemes have

included gardening, shed moving and cellar clearing!

Camping events mainly focus on attending other organised events, such as EVO 2010,

The Experimental Camp or doing our own thing – grab a hammock and off we go!

We still get up to lots of other silly, I mean interesting things;

  • Raft building
  • Night Navigation Exercise
  • Crazy Golf (our own Dungey made course)
  • Spaghetti Roller Coaster ping pong challenge
  • And the obligatory Tizz Quiz!

Fun is always on the menu for us and we have a number of bar-b-q’s, Ready Steady Cook

and backwards cooking evening throughout the year.

Other fun things to look forward to include,

·         Boat building (and sinking!) - Jul

·         Survival/Hammock weekend – Aug

·         Theme Park Camp – Sept (we even have an Irish Network Unit coming this year!)

·         Network Experimental Camp (follow on from the success of last year we will be

back at Bentley Copse) - Oct

Recruitment is always on the agenda as some of the members are nearing the magic 25

upper age range. So if you know of anyone who is coming up to 18 then point them in our

direction. The programme and photos are all up to date on our website.

The actively participate in both local District and County events. The popular local activity

seems to be the Summit Monkey Bridge, which we have done twice this year. Joint

events are planned with other local Network Units from Guildford and Reigate. We also

helped out at the Explorer Night Challenge and sat up all night in -8 degrees to run and man

a base on the route, good job we were prepared!

As ever the biggest thanks goes to the members of Summit Network members who

continue to display all of the best characteristics that you could find in any Network Scout.

Without them it simply would not happen!
