Farnham District has a thriving Scouting community with over 1000 boys, girls and adults involved in seven Scout Groups, two Explorer Scout Groups, one Scout Network and a Scout Fellowship made up as follows:-
Explorer Scouts:
· Everest Mad Cats (based out of 4ths HQ at Tongham)
· K2 (based out of 5ths HQ at the Bourne)
Scout Network (based out of 11ths HQ at Guildford Trading Estate)
Scout Fellowship (based at Garner’s Field, District Camp Site)
Boys and girls join Beavers at 6 years, progress to Cubs at 8 and Scouts at 10½. After Scouts at 14 years our young people can join Explorer Scouts, finally moving to the Scout Network with its age range of 18 to 25 years. Many in turn then choose to become junior leaders and progress on through the movement. Boys, girls and young adults are able to join any Scouting section at any stage providing they meet the entry age requirements.
Adults in scouting can be Leaders, Assistant Leaders, Specialist Advisors or Helpers either actively involved with young people in the individual Groups, or join the Scout Fellowship which is made up of all ages and supports Scouting.
The District is run by our District Commissioner and a committee of trustees. Farnham is part of Surrey Scouts with its County Commissioner and dedicated support team.
Scouting is a national organisation with our Chief Scout based in London and we are in turn all part of the Worldwide Scouting Movement.
Farnham has its own District campsite at Garner’s Field, Tilford. The campsite is located in a secluded spot next to the River Wey and has modern facilities.
Farnham District Scout Shop is in the Town Centre and supplies uniforms and scouting equipment; all profits go to support the District.
