ADC (Cubs) report to the District AGM
June 2009

Over the year Farnham Cubs have had the opportunity to take part in several District run competitions including five-a-side football, craft and a quiz. New for this year we also introduced a chess competition, which was well attended and well contested! The majority of our ten Packs have also given their boys and girls the opportunity to camp at least once over the year, for many this included the opportunity to attend an Olympic themed District Cub Camp.

My work commitments have changed this year, and so I am unable to visit as many pack evenings as I would like. That said I am ably supported by my District Cub Scout Leader, Wilf Parkin. Wilf is often the first port of call for leaders who need extra support or emergency cover, so the whole district owes him a huge thank you.

Once again our membership has stayed somewhat static at around 220 Cubs, but this time last year I was suggesting that we could not grow Cub Scouting as all of our Packs were at capacity. However whilst our Packs are still full, we have one Group who are starting to give serious consideration to opening a second Pack…watch this space!

In December I undertook to hold a “Carol Campfire” at Garners Field, this was an opportunity for many of our Cubs to come together and celebrate the season Scouting style. As with any first, there were lessons to be learned, but fun was had by all, and I am hopeful that this event will soon be seen as a Farnham Cub Scouting tradition.

To summarise, Cub Scouting remains strong in this District, and I hope we are sitting on the brink of growing it. Again thanks to Wilf, all of my leaders and helpers, and most importantly that wonderful bunch of 8 - 10½ year olds that make it all worth while!
