Beavers Report 2009

We have had another busy year for the Beaver section. We have 8 Colonies in the district, all with leaders and producing a wide variety of programmes resulting in a high number of Bronze chief Scout awards.

We as a district come together for district events. Last year we had our guy competition at Garners field where each colony constructed a guy during their colony evening and brought it along to have it judged. A high standard of guy building and a lot of fun was had by all.

We run an annual Beaver swimming gala at Farnham sports centre. With cheering parents and family we have 15 races of all mixed abilities and age ranges, swim across the width of the pool. They were assisted by one of our young leaders from explorers. Great fun was had by all and the loudest cheer was for the leaders race.

The Beavers joined in with the whole of the district, for the swimming badge at the Sports centre. They can achieve any of the 5 stage badges and I was pleased that they all passed their badges.

We also ran our District craft competition at the 2nd's HQ. Our district craft advisor Christine Moss read them a story and with a wonderful inspiring imagination they cut, stuck and coloured their way to their final piece.

Farnham District joined the Surrey scout Beaver funday, Bazzaz at Cranleigh Show ground, 2 weeks ago. Along with 1800 Beaver scouts and 600 Leaders they joined in the circus themed funday. Glorious sunshine brought the excited Beavers to enjoy a fun filled activity day from clowns, stilt walkers, juggling, caving, climbing tower, craft, bouncy castles, Replies, scalelectric and the big top where everyone watched an inspiring performance of circus skills. The Police, Fire and ambulance were all on site, letting the children have a look at the vehicles and then the fire brigade let their tank full of water off into the air with hundreds of excited Beavers wanting to get wet from the spray.

Exhausted and tired they waved the clowns goodbye.

Our next event is a District sleepover at Garners field in October, where 6 Beavers from each colony will have an opportunity to sleep in tents in this hall for this sleepover.

My thanks goes to all the Leaders and assistants and helpers that put a lot of hard work and time into producing wonderful programmes for youngsters that are involved with Beaver Scouting.
